On the spot Enquiry into the death of 3 persons during cleaning of serverage tank in Delhi conducted by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes on 08.08.2017.
On the basis of the news appeared in the various National Dailies on 07.08.2017 that “Three workers suffocate to death in Lajpat Nagar sewer, 1critical” the Commission took the suo-moto cognizance of the incidence and a team headed by Prof. (Dr.) Ram Shankar Katheria, Hon’ble Chairman alongwith Dr. Smita S. Chaudhari, Joint Secretary, Shri Kaushal Kumar, Director, Shri P.S. Mehta, Research Officer & Shri Dhiraj Singh, Asstt. Section Officer of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes visited the place of incidence and conducted an on the spot enquiry regarding death of 3 persons while cleaning a sewer line on Jal Vihar Road opposite Ram Mandir, Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi on 08.08.2017.

NCSC, HQRS, New Delhi has taken suo moto cognizance of press news dated 19.07.2017 in connection with suicide of 19 year old SC youth, Shri. Vinayak, after releasing from Police custody and considering the veracity of the matter Hon’ble Vice Chairman visited the house of Shri. Vinayak on 03.08.2017 at Thrissur.

Hon’ble Vice Chairman held Meeting with District Collector and Concerned Police Chief in this regard. Hon’ble Vice Chairman recommended to book the case under Section 3(2) (5) of SC/ST POA Act, provide agricultural land to the victims family and chalk out the Welfare schemes suit for them, including income generation scheme. Also assured that will recommend for a Cabinet decision to sanction Rs.25 Lakhs as compensation to victims family.
